Work Crew Specialist

The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office Parole and Probation Division is currently recruiting qualified individuals to fill a Work Crew Specialist position. 

The Work Crew Specialist leads, motivates and counsels work crews including adult clients who owe restitution and are sanctioned and/or assigned community service by a judge. Work crews perform manual landscape maintenance tasks throughout Clackamas County. The Work Crew Specialist performs manual labor with crews and emulates good work habits and performance.

Role and Responsibilities 

Typical tasks may include but are mot limited to; Securing and maintaining tools for field work assignments, drives van for crews and works with clients to accomplish completion of service work; assist in landscape planning and maintenance of planting areas; selects and purchases; plans and coordinates the use of equipment and materials on maintenance and repair projects; researches prices and availability of equipment and materials; purchases daily maintenance supplies; canvas agencies for potential service contracts, prepare contracts, obtain approval, complete agency reports; provide quotes to representatives of contracting agency, make recommendations to management; supervise work crews of clients, motivate clients, assure safety and review quantity/quality of work performed; construct, maintain and renovate walkways and trails; clear brush and debris; haul and spread gravel, wood chips and bark dust; install and repair gates, barriers, fences and signs; sweep paved walks and parking areas; and secure and maintain tools for field work assignments, drive van for crews, and work with clients to accomplish completion of service work

Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience performing landscape maintenance.
    • This experience must include a minimum of one (1) year experience leading and/or coordinating the work of others
  • Knowledge and ability to perform preventative maintenance and repairs to small engine tools such as mowers, edgers, chainsaws and chippers
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job, which include strenuous physical labor, exposure to adverse weather conditions and hazardous locations.
  • Ability to emulate productivity, good work habits and performance and safety compliance
  • Must have the ability to safely operate a 15-passenger van
  • Must pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test

  • Driving is required for County business on a regular basis or to accomplish work. Incumbents must possess a valid driver's license, and possess and maintain an acceptable driving record throughout the course of employment Learn more about the County's driving policy

Hours and Duration

This is a part-time and not a seasonal position. Temporary, part-time employees work less than 30 hours a week during a standard workweek of Saturday through Friday. Specific hours of work will be discussed with the candidate selected for this position at the time an offer of employment is extended.
