If you answered “Yes” to the questions above, we want you to join our team as a Traffic Safety Engineering Intern for the summer. Clackamas County's Traffic Safety Program is searching for someone who is interested in the opportunity to learn about how an agency operates a 1,400 mile urban and rural roadway system and for them to assist us in keeping it safe and efficient for all users. The first area of focus is traffic signals in Clackamas County. Clackamas County is currently deploying a new asset management system to help with the maintenance and operation of traffic signals and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) devices such as school zone beacons, speed feedback signs, and pedestrian crossing treatments. To assist with this asset management system deployment, you will help with inventory data collection of these devices and collect information such as install location, purpose of asset, age, and type of equipment. This is a unique opportunity to dive into the details of traffic signals and ITS devices in a public sector setting and gain valuable hands-on experience. In addition to learning about traffic signals, you will have the opportunity to learn about various traffic engineering aspects of operating a 1,400 mile roadway system. You will work as a member of our engineering team helping determine proper speeds using cutting-edge technology, helping with signing and pavement marking analysis, work zone traffic control plan reviews, as well as performing traffic engineering investigations on both urban and rural roads. If selected for this position, you will be working and collaborating with traffic engineers and technicians in a fast-paced positive and productive environment. You will be helping with a critical part of understanding the traffic signals system assets that the County owns and helping the County keep users safe on its vast road network.
