The Clackamas County Technology Services Department is seeking an experienced candidate for its temporary, 28-hour per week Telecommunication Specialist position.

The role involves long-range planning and designing telecom configurations, researching new systems and technologies, and collaborating with departments to analyze current and future needs. It includes project management, coordinating meetings, and problem-solving with management, users, and vendors. Additionally, the job requires performing routine installation, maintenance, programming, audits, and repairs of various telecom and network equipment and creating detailed reports and charts. This position is expected to last one (1) year from date of hire.

Applicants should be strong team contributors, communicators, and self-starters who can work independently in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. The most competitive candidates will have experience-designing, programming, installing and maintaining a variety of telecommunications equipment and servers.

Clackamas County does not offer visa sponsorships. Once a job applicant has accepted a position, they will be required to complete an I-9 and confirm authorization to work in the United States prior to their first day.

Role and Responsibilities

Responsibilities for this position will include:

  • Participates in long range planning and design of Telecom configurations and systems; confers with departments to analyze current and projected requirements; participates in research on new systems and technologies.
  • Participates in occasional Telecom project management and coordination; occasionally may coordinate meetings, schedules, objectives and materials. Problem-solves and builds consensus with management, users and vendors.
  • Performs routine physical installation, maintenance, programming, moves, adds, changes and repair of Voice server equipment, security servers, storage systems and interface applications; specialized and proprietary applications, software and all other related equipment.
  • Performs routine audits, installation, maintenance, and repair of video conferencing servers, csu/dsu’s, hubs, switches, telecommunications network equipment, telecommunication system related microcomputers, multiplexers.
  • Performs routine audits, analysis, design and programming of voice equipment,  peripheral servers, specialized and proprietary applications, software and related equipment.
  • Performs audits of Telecommunication circuits, fiber, systems and invoices. Creates detailed reports and charts.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5 years of related experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills to perform the responsibilities of the position.
  • Experience with the design, programming, installation, maintenance and testing of voice servers, telecommunication related peripheral servers and software.
  • Experience with the installation, maintenance and testing of analog and digital circuits and devices.
  • Experience with performing audits and analysis of telecommunication servers, equipment, circuits and peripheral equipment.
  • Knowledge of Telecommunication network system architecture, configuration and design, specific and general telecommunications systems terminology and technology
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong customer service skills

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Possession of Siemens / Unify vendor certifications

Schedule

This position is included in the county’s alternate workweek program, working 28 hours during a standard workweek of Monday through Friday (Mondays off). Specific hours of work will be discussed with the candidate selected for this position at the time an offer of employment is extended. This position is designated as on-site/in-person. It is expected that the selected candidate will perform duties at the specified on-site work location.

Duration

This position is expected to last one (1) year from date of hire. This may be extended based on the needs of the department and funding for the position.
