Clackamas County’s Library Support Services (LSS) seeks a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a part-time Courier. The successful candidate will be crucial in providing central sorting and materials handling services for the 13 public libraries we serve.

The primary responsibility will be the transportation and delivery of library books & materials, interoffice mail, and goods & supplies to LINCC libraries.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Operate a medium-duty box truck or similar motor vehicle, under a wide variety of traffic and weather conditions, between libraries within the County and other public facilities
  • Load and unload crates weighing 20 to 50 pounds using a hand truck in conjunction with a ramp or lift gate
  • Clean and fuel vehicles as needed
  • Operate an Automated Materials Handling (AMH) system:
    • Induct library materials into the system
    • Level, complete, tag, remove, and replace crated on the system
    • Identify AMH maintenance issues and perform basic preventative maintenance; such as vacuuming, wiping down, and visually inspecting the system, among others
  • Stage crates for induction into the AMH
  • Assist with sorting & packaging of inbound & outbound mail type materials
  • Respond to inquiries from the public regarding Courier functions and schedule
  • Please Note: Training on routes, vehicles operations, loading/delivery procedures, AMH operations, and basic shipping & receiving activities will be provided

Minimum qualifications

  • Knowledge of or experience applying basic recordkeeping principles and practices
  • Knowledge of or experience with basic computer operations, office equipment and machinery, and their intended uses

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience as a delivery driver, specifically in roles involving the transport of materials in crates or boxes
  • Experience using an AMH system
  • Mail room experience; including preparing, receiving and routing parcels & packages

Pre-employment requirements

  • Must pass a post offer physical assessment; accommodation requests will be reviewed on an individual basis in compliance with State and Federal legislations
  • Must pass a criminal history check, which may include a national or state fingerprint records check
  • Driving is required for County business on regular basis or to accomplish work. Incumbents must possess a valid driver’s license and posses and maintain an acceptable driving record throughout the course of employment Learn more about the County's driving policy.

Work Schedule

Library operations run seven days a week, with Courier shifts typically lasting six (6) hours. These shifts are scheduled to begin at 5:30 am and we strive to provide employees with consistent schedules. Depending on the department needs, typical number of hours range from six (6) to 20 hours per week.

Please Note: This position is not eligible for telework.

Duration

One (1) year, with the option to extend if all parties are in agreement.
