(Barton Park, Clackamas Oregon)
Clackamas County Parks is currently recruiting for an on-site Park Caretaker at Barton Park. Barton Park is located just outside of Clackamas on Bakers Ferry Rd., sits along the Clackamas River, and functions primarily as a campground and day-use park. Recruitment is open through Thursday, March 6, 2025.
Compensation
This position is a fair exchange of the use of the Caretaker residence (property details are listed below in General Park and Residence Information section) for services. Clackamas County Parks provides garbage, and sewer (septic). Caretaker(s) are responsible for other utilities such as water, electric and cable.
Hours and Duration
This position works a minimum of 67 hours per month. The agreement runs through the end of the calendar year, with an option for annual renewals. Specific hours of work will be discussed during the interview and selection process.
Benefits
This position is not eligible to receive benefits or leave accruals.
Role and Responsibilities
- Be a positive and professional "presence" in the parks at all times
- Greet public, provide information, and assist park users as needed
- Interact and communicate effectively with law enforcement, fire, emergency, park staff, contractors, vendors and other personnel or agencies
- Explain and enforce park rules; assess and resolve complaints as needed
- Monitor the park for safety, fire and health hazards
- Patrol the park property daily, inspecting for vandalism, other signs of damage to park property, or inappropriate behavior by park visitors
- Remove litter, garbage and recycling in and around park property
- Maintain caretaker house and yard
- Open and close park entrance gates as needed
- Submit monthly activity reports
- Assist Park Rangers with other duties as may be assigned
Position Requirements
- Must successfully pass a post-offer, pre-employment physical assessment. Accommodation requests will be reviewed on an individual basis in compliance with State and Federal legislation.
- Must successfully pass a criminal history check
- Must successfully pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test
- Must be 21 years old at the time of contract
- Must be able to obtain and provide proof of liability insurance (i.e. Renter's Insurance) naming Clackamas County as Additional Insured Party
- Must be able to work weekends, holidays, nights and be subject to call back as required/scheduled.
- Driving is required for County business on a regular basis or to accomplish work. Incumbents must possess a valid driver's license and possess and maintain an acceptable driving record throughout the course of employment.
Preferred qualifications
- Supervisory or lead work experience
- Park & Recreation experience
- Experience working independently, without close supervision
- Military, law enforcement or security experience
- Maintenance, plumbing, small equipment and/or handyman experience
- Current CPR/ First Aid Certification
- Basic computer and software skills, such as Microsoft Word and Excel
General Park Information
Barton Park is located just outside of Clackamas and is situated on 120 acres adjacent to the Clackamas River. It offers two campgrounds, 4 reservable shelters, and a boat launch. Recreation opportunities include bank or boat fishing for steelhead, trout and salmon, rafting, picnicking, birdwatching, camping, and hiking. Local attractions include Estacada, the Mt. Hood National Forest, Pomeroy Historic Farm, and Portland Oregon, with PDX just 40 minutes away.
Residence Information
The caretaker house was constructed in 2008 and is 1,200 square feet with three (3) bedrooms and two (2) bathrooms. The caretaker house has a detached one car garage and is located right at the entrance to Barton Park.

Barton Park is located at 19009 SE Barton Park Rd, Boring, OR 97009. From I-205/S take exit 13 and turn right onto Hwy 224. Continue on 224 until you reach the Barton Market at the intersection of 224/SE Bakers Ferry Rd. Turn right onto SE Bakers Ferry Rd and continue straight until you enter Barton Park on Barton Park Rd.
