Deterra Pouches

Deterra pouch

It’s never been easier to make the safe choice!

Now you can easily and safely dispose of unused drugs with Deterra pouches from Clackamas County.

Deterra is a medication disposal pouch that allows you to deactivate and conveniently dispose of expired or unwanted medications or drugs.

Why should you dispose of unused medications and illicit drugs?

  • Protect your loved ones. When you keep drugs in your home, they may be taken by people who should not take them, including children. Disposing of unused drugs saves lives.
  • Protect our water. Medications that are flushed, dumped down the drain or put in the trash contaminate our water.

What substances can Deterra pouches dissolve?

Deterra can be used to safely deactivate and dispose of unneeded pills, patches, liquids, creams and films at home. Deterra pouches can also be used to dispose of illicit substances such as fentanyl.

Deterra can not be used for inorganic meds like antacids or iron supplements, marijuana bud/leaf products, or biologics like vaccines.

How do I use the Deterra Pouch?

1. Place medication in pouch

Open pouch and place unused medication inside.

2. Fill halfway with water

Fill halfway with warm water and wait 30 seconds. Foaming may occur.

3. Seal, shake & dispose in trash

Seal tightly, gently shake and dispose of in normal trash.
