Clackamas County and partners talk safety with hundreds at the County Fair
Those who visited Safety Street at the Clackamas County Fair in Canby during the hottest week in August learned about staying safe at home and on the road. Safety Street is part of the county’s larger effort to reduce injuries and the trauma of the impact of those injuries on families.
On Safety Street, children ride through an informational driving course highlighting common traffic signs that drivers, bikers and pedestrians follow to keep the community safe. Participation of county staff, volunteers and community partners in the fair is one way we bring community awareness about safety efforts through experiential play and fun interactive exhibits.
Safety Street highlights:
- Almost 1,000 kids learned about traffic safety while riding our safety course
- More than 1,500 safety bracelets went home with fairgoers
- Partners shared tips on senior safety, bicycle helmet fitting, emergency management, crosswalk safety and mental health care
- Fonzie, the happy llama, visited to get safety tips, too!
