School Resource Officers (SROs)

About SROs

The Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer (SRO) Program draws from the standards of the National Association of School Resource Officers in defining the role of the SRO as one of teacher, informal counselor, and law enforcement officer.

Deputies apply and are competitively selected to serve as SROs for a three-year term. Each receives specific training to work with youth and are knowledgeable of restorative justice principles and trauma-informed investigatory practices.

In addition to promoting safety in and around the school, the focus of the SRO is to build trust and respect between law enforcement and students by building relationships, mentoring, and providing guidance to resources to solve concerns.

The Sheriff’s Office contracts and works in partnership with the school districts of Estacada, North Clackamas, and West Linn-Wilsonville to provide School Resource Officer services.
