Election workers conduct elections.Oregon City, OR – Clackamas County Clerk and Elections has announced that they were selected as a recipient of a Help America Vote College Program (HAVCP) grant for $59,000. Clackamas County Elections is one of 21 recipients across the country who were named as grantees by the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) in 2024. Information on the grantees and details about the HAVCP grants can be found on the EAC’s website eac.gov .

Clackamas County Elections is launching the grant-funded initiative; Diversity in Democracy this summer to recruit, train, and employ college election workers to assist in the administration of county elections, including the November 5, 2024 General Election. College students will have the opportunity to learn how election administration works by being an active part of the process as an election worker. The grant will provide resources for training election workers, supplies to increase election worker outreach and recruitment, as well as personnel costs for college election workers. Diversity in Democracy will strengthen civic engagement among minority college students and support the equity and inclusion goals of the Office of the County Clerk.

Clerk Catherine McMullen shared, “This grant won’t just allow us to recruit and hire local college students as temporary election workers, it will also allow us to introduce local government and elections administration as a career path for the next generation of public servants.”

Clackamas County Clerk and Elections is working with Clackamas Community College (CCC) to recruit and hire community college students to serve as temporary election workers.

“There is a history of collaboration between Clackamas Community College and Clackamas County Elections, and we are looking forward to furthering that collaboration with bringing employment, training, and community service opportunities to our student body.” CCC President Tim Cook stated in support.

Clackamas County Elections will kick off recruitment and engagement activities at the CCC Summer Connections 2024 Juneteenth and Pride Month community celebration on Friday, June 21, 5-7:30 p.m. at the Wacheno Welcome Center on the CCC Oregon City campus.
