DA seal OREGON CITY, Or. -- A 19-year-old man accused of killing his six-week-old son was arraigned on murder and assault charges Monday in Clackamas County Circuit Court.

Maliki Israel Skutley was charged with two counts of Murder in the Second Degree and Assault in the First Degree.

Gladstone Police Department officers were dispatched to Randall Children's Hospital on April 20 to investigate a report of possible child abuse.

Police learned that the victim, Paxton Shuler, suffered a life-threatening brain injury on April 16. The baby died April 23.

Paxton was left in Skutley’s care on April 16 while the infant’s mother was at work. The couple lived at the Budget Inn in Gladstone.

The police investigation concluded the Paxton’s death was caused by a lack of oxygen to his brain and the result of blunt force trauma or extreme pressure. The injury is alleged to have occurred while Skutley was taking care of the baby.

Skutley is being held without bail at the Clackamas County Jail.
