Did you know that Clackamas County contains the largest rural population in Oregon?

On March 20, United States Representative Maxine Dexter toured east Clackamas County to explore the unique needs of its rural communities. During the tour, she visited the Sandy Health Center, the Bull Run Bridge, and the Sandy River, gaining firsthand insight into the region’s unique challenges. Rep. Dexter was joined by Clackamas County Commissioner Paul Savas and several county employees.

The Sandy Health Center provides primary care, behavioral health, and dental services for the people of Sandy and the Mt, Hood communities. Rep. Dexter, a licensed physician, spoke with clinic staff about services for vulnerable neighbors, including substance abuse treatment options.

Traveling to the foothills of Mt Hood, Rep. Dexter also learned about work to protect mountain communities from natural disasters. With broad community support, the county is actively seeking federal funding to replace the Bull Run Bridge. At 130-years old, the bridge requires expensive repairs, and bridge weight restrictions complicate emergency response efforts in the area.

Special thanks to Rep. Maxine Dexter and her team for joining us!
