OREGON CITY, Or. -- The Board of County Commissioners is seeking applications to fill the vacancy for County Commissioner, Position 4.
Applications are being taken starting today, Wednesday, March 19, through Wednesday, April 9 by 5 p.m. Pacific time.
To serve as a county commissioner in Oregon, by state statute, candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications:
- Must be a US citizen
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be a current Clackamas County resident who has resided in Clackamas County for a minimum of the previous 12 months prior to election
- Must be registered to vote in Clackamas County
The Board may choose to consider the following additional criteria in the selection process:
- Geographic area of residence
- Prior elected experience
- Prior community service
- Plan to run, or not, in the next election for this seat
- Years of community service and why types of community service
- Specific expertise in issue/policy areas

In a cover letter, applicants are being asked to answer the following questions:
- Why do you wish to serve as a county commissioner?
- In your opinion, what are the three most pressing issues affecting Clackamas County? What policy interventions would you advocate for to address those issues?
- What attributes uniquely qualify you to be a Clackamas County Commissioner? What expertise, experience and community service will you bring to the Commission?
The County Commissioner, Position 4 seat has a term that runs through December 2028. The Board will appoint an individual to serve in the role until December 2026. The office will then be elected for an unexpired 2-year term at the General Election on Nov. 3, 2026. Filing will open in September 2025 for the unexpired term.
The Board has indicated that finalists for the seat will be interviewed at a public meeting before formalizing the appointment.
