County Clerk Advises that Nonprofit Organizations May Use Old or Incomplete Data When Contacting Voters

The best way to verify your voter registration information is to visit oregonvotes.gov or contact Clackamas County Elections.

Oregon City, OR – Clerk Catherine McMullen advises county voters that well-meaning nonprofit or other organizations may be using old or incomplete data when contacting residents about voter registration. The Oregon Secretary of State Elections Division has shared that more than 11,000 nonprofit mail pieces encouraging voter registration are being mailed to Clackamas County households starting in August. There was a similar effort this spring that led to increased questions from active registered voters.

As with every presidential election cycle there is an increase in non-profit organizations and other groups that want to ensure that you are registered to vote.  Sometimes these organizations send mailers or reach out to voters via text or phone with messaging that indicates active voters may not be registered to vote. This inaccurate information can lead to confusion and concern.

“If you receive a text message, phone call, or mailer that suggests you may not be registered to vote please do not be alarmed,” Clerk McMullen advised, “instead take action to check that your voter registration is up to date.”

Voters can check that they are registered to vote at their current address and make any needed changes by visiting the Oregon Secretary of State website, oregonvotes.gov . Voters can also contact Clackamas County Elections at 503-655-8510 and we can verify your registration information over the phone.

The Voter Registration Deadline for new Oregon voters is Oct. 15. Voters can register to vote online at oregonvotes.gov or by filling out an Oregon Voter Registration Card and returning it to Clackamas County Elections by mail or in person. Voter registration cards can be found at public libraries, post offices, the elections office, or a voter registration card can be printed.

Ballots for the November 5, 2024 General Election will be mailed beginning Oct. 16. If you will be away from home on Election Day you can request an absentee ballot. Absentee ballots can be mailed to your temporary address or picked up at the elections office beginning Sep. 23. Contact Clackamas County Elections to request an absentee ballot.
