One-hundred new affordable apartment homes are opening at the former Marylhurst University campus in Lake Oswego. This new community, Mercy Greenbrae, was awarded $3 million in funding from the Housing Authority of Clackamas County utilizing the Metro housing bond. In addition, the county will provide ongoing funding to Mercy Greenbrae through the supportive housing services measure (SHS).
The development includes 60 apartments for low-income households and 40 apartments for families and individuals who are leaving homelessness or at risk of homelessness. Residents receive an array of services tailored to their specific needs that support them to reach their goals and remain stably housed.
Eighty percent of the apartment homes at Mercy Greenbrae will have two and three bedrooms, meeting a critical need for affordable family housing in Clackamas County. This development is designed to enhance child and student success, and includes ample play spaces and a technology center. Mercy Greenbrae is a participant in the Mercy Scholars program which aims to support student achievement in school.
“The Housing Authority of Clackamas County was proud to contribute $3 million to help make this development a reality,” stated Clackamas County Commissioner Mark Shull. “Forty of these 100 apartments are for families or people who were homeless or at risk of it. For kids, the long-lasting trauma and impacts of homelessness cannot be understated, and communities must take action to stop it.”
Clackamas County is pleased to collaborate with the many partners who made this project possible, including developer Mercy Housing Northwest, the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary, the City of Lake Oswego, the Lake Oswego School District, and others.
“Mercy Greenbrae marks a major milestone in the history of our organization as we open the doors to our first affordable housing development in Oregon,” stated Mercy Housing President Joe Thompson. “With this monumental occasion, we bring more than 30 years of work in Washington and Idaho with us. We could not be more honored and excited that our first project is in the wonderful city of Lake Oswego and on the gorgeous campus of Marylhurst. We also find ourselves humbled by the wonderful neighbors, community members, organizations, and representatives from all levels of government who have rallied around this community. Now, the real work of welcoming families, home, begins.”
