Clackamas County Elections Mails Ballots to 315,000 Voters for the
May 21, 2024 Primary Election
Voters should look for a newly designed ballot packet in the mail.
Oregon City, OR – Starting today, Wednesday, May 1, Clackamas County Elections begins to mail primary election ballots to the more than 315,000 registered voters in our county. Oregon had closed party primary elections. Voters must have been registered with a major political party by the April 30 deadline to be eligible vote in that party’s closed primary election. Voters registered with a minor party or as non-affiliated (not a member of any party) will receive a ballot with only nonpartisan contests and measures in the May 21, 2024 Primary Election.
Newly designed ballot packet in the mail. Registered voters should look for their ballot to arrive in a newly designed, larger, 6-by-9-inch ballot packet. Voters will see a brightly colored outer ballot envelope with the “Official Election Mail” logo.
You’ll also notice that the ballot packet no longer contains an optional secrecy sleeve. That is because it does not need one. Instead, a secure privacy weave has been printed onto your Official Ballot Return Envelope. When your ballot is placed into the envelope, the privacy weave prevents anyone from seeing how you voted. This change has been approved by both the Secretary of State’s Office and the United States Postal Service and reflects best practices of other large counties in Vote-by-Mail states including Washington, Oregon, and Utah. This also reflects best practices of financial institutions to protect your information.
Sign up for Track Your Ballot! Voters can now know exactly when this new ballot packet is in the mail to them. Track Your Ballot allows voters to follow their ballot from mailed to accepted. This is an opt-in service that alerts voters via text, phone, or email. Sign up to know when your ballot is mailed to you. After you vote and return your ballot, you’ll be alerted when it has been accepted for counting.
If you forget to sign your ballot envelope, or your signature does not match, we will notify you through the system, in addition to the required mailed letter. With Track Your Ballot you can take action that much sooner to ensure your vote can be counted. Your vote remains confidential. Sign up online at clackamas.us/elections/track-your-ballot.
Return your ballot by mail or in an Official Ballot Drop Site. Once voted, ballots can be mailed back with a valid postmark or returned to an official ballot drop site by 8 p.m. on Election Day, May 21, 2024. No postage is needed. Clackamas County Elections has 25 official ballot drop sites open across the county. There have been a few changes to official ballot drop box locations, including:
- The Milwaukie City Hall has moved a few blocks north and the official ballot drop site has moved with it to 10501 SE Main Street in Milwaukie.
- The Happy Valley Library is undergoing construction and the official ballot drop box will be available inside the library during open hours. The nearest 24-hour drive up official ballot drop site is located at the Happy Valley City Hall at 16000 SE Misty Drive in Happy Valley.
Those official ballot drop sites marked with an asterisk have drive-up ballot drop access.

Voters who have not received a ballot by May 9 should contact Clackamas County Elections for a replacement. Voters can email elections@clackamas.us, call 503-655-8510, or visit the office at 1710 Red Soils Court in Oregon City.
