A grand jury found two Portland police officers and a Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office deputy were justified in a shooting that resulted in the death of a local man.
Nick Wombold and Brian Wheeler, both Portland officers, and David Sloboda, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office deputy, were cleared in the death of Jack James Watson.
On June 9, the Clackamas County District Attorney’s Office presented a grand jury panel with the investigation into the officer involved fatal shooting of Watson, which occurred on April 24.
Watson was wanted for the murder of Zachary Freeman, which had occurred in the City of Portland the prior evening. Watson was armed and opened fire on police officers as they attempted to take him into custody. Law enforcement returned fire, striking Watson, who died at the scene.
