North Clackamas Parks and Recreation District (NCPRD) is celebrating three new pollinator gardens in honor of National Pollinator Week later this month.
“Please join me at the Pollination Celebration! Just think, pollinators are responsible for bringing us one out of every three bites of food—we can’t live without pollinators! Without the actions of busy bees, birds, bats, butterflies, beetles, and other pollinators, our agriculture, food supply, and beautiful landscapes would disappear,” said Clackamas County Commissioner Martha Schrader.
Visitors will discover the wonderful world of pollinators and learn what to do to support pollinator health through info booths, fun hands-on activities and crafts, including opportunities to enjoy ice cream, face painting and free wildflower seeds. The event, open to the public, is set for 1-3 p.m. on June 24 at Stringfield Family Park, 3614 S.E. Naef Rd. in Oak Grove near Jennings Lodge. Participants can come dressed as their favorite pollinators for a chance to win a prize.

“There are over 500 species of bees in Oregon and they, along with other pollinating species, are vital to native plant communities, habitat conservation, and crop production. Native bugs and birds love native plants – we carefully selected species to provide pollen and nectar throughout the growing season. I hope the gardens can inspire local residents to provide pollinator habitat in their own backyards while also showcasing some of the beautiful native wildflowers of the Willamette Valley,” said Lauren Cary, NCPRD Natural Areas Coordinator.
Event partners include North Clackamas Parks and Recreation District, Clackamas County, Pollinator Partnership, Oak Lodge Water Services, and Native Plant Society of Oregon.
Pollinator Week is an annual celebration in support of pollinator health that was initiated and is managed by Pollinator Partnership. National Pollinator Week this year is celebrated June 19-25. Learn more at https://www.pollinator.org/pollinator-week.
