Clackamas Commissioners traveled to Grand Ronde on April 17 to meet with Tribal Council Members of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde.

Commissioners began their visit at the Chachalu Museum and Cultural Center to learn about the tribal history, historic places and resources, and indigenous art. Council Members then hosted tours of their Health and Wellness Center and new Elder Housing, which is still under construction. The visit concluded with a lunch discussion about ongoing projects, including Tumwata Village at Willamette Falls.

Commissioners and Tribal Council Members exchanged gifts to conclude their visit, expressing their appreciation of the ongoing relationship between both governments.

Clackamas Commissioners last visited Grand Ronde in 2019. The Clackamas name originates with the Clackamas band of indigenous peoples, one of the many recognized tribes of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde.
