Canby ReStore-Habitat for Humanity, which has a long-standing commitment to prevent waste and recycling, recently received Clackamas County Leader in Sustainability (LiS) certification at the silver level. This is the first Canby business to be recognized with the LiS certification.
Organizations and businesses in the county that achieve LiS certification demonstrate commitment to sustainability, use best practices around waste prevention and recycling, conserve water and energy, and support their employees and the community.
Habitat for Humanity ReStores are nonprofit home improvement stores and donation centers that sell new and gently used furniture, appliances, home accessories, building materials and related items at a fraction of the retail price. Proceeds are used to help build strength, stability, self-reliance and shelter in local communities and around the world.
Canby ReStore’s many sustainability efforts include:
- Diverting building materials from landfills through reuse
- Donating reusable items not sold to local nonprofit partners
- Providing work training for Easter Seals
- Minimizing fuel consumption through sustainable driving practices
- Using low-flow faucet aerators to conserve water
“Clackamas County’s Leaders in Sustainability program has allowed Canby ReStore to expand its efforts in maintaining sustainable practices by being introduced to more ways we can contribute to the benefit of the entire community,” said Restore Director Connie Farrier.
