On Thursday, January 23, 2025, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office led a retail crime mission focusing on retailers along SE 82nd Ave., between SE Johnson Creek Blvd. and SE Causey Ave. in unincorporated Clackamas County, including Walmart, Burlington, HomeGoods, and TJ Maxx.
During the 10-hour mission, law enforcement contacted theft suspects as they exited stores and others suspected of committing crimes in the area, resulting in 25 arrests on various charges and the recovery of more than $1,900 worth of stolen merchandise (approximately 133 items). Additionally, 22 outstanding arrest warrants were cleared.
The mission included Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies and detectives working in partnership with officers and investigators from the Oregon Department of Justice, Milwaukie Police Department, and Oregon City Police Department. Deputies from the Clackamas County Jail and Sheriff’s Office Property & Evidence Technicians assisted in processing the large number of custodies and amount of recovered property.
Thursday’s mission was funded in part by the Organized Retail Theft (ORT) Grant Program, created by Oregon Senate Bill 900 (2023) and administered by the Oregon Criminal Justice Commission. The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office was awarded $686,000 for FY2024-25, which helps fund staffing and equipment for law enforcement missions and other efforts to combat organized retail theft and hold those offenders accountable.
Since 2022, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office has been partnering with local businesses and our local law enforcement partners to combat retail theft through similar missions. Additional missions throughout Clackamas County are planned for the future.
