On January 2, 2025, Sheriff Angela Brandenburg was sworn in for her second term by Presiding Judge Michael C. Wetzel at the Clackamas County Courthouse in downtown Oregon City.
Reflecting on her first term, Sheriff Brandenburg stated, “It is truly an honor as Sheriff to serve the people of Clackamas County, and I am deeply grateful for the continued trust they have placed in me.”
Key Accomplishments from Sheriff Brandenburg’s First Term
Public Safety Levy Renewal
Sheriff Brandenburg successfully led the renewal of the Public Safety Local Option Levy, earning over 53% voter approval. The levy funded new initiatives, including:
- Mental health and medical jail beds
- A body-worn camera program
- Added 29 new Sheriff’s Office positions: 6 jail deputies, 16 patrol deputies, 5 detectives, and 2 professional standards investigators
Recruitment and Hiring
In 2024, the Sheriff’s Office hired 79 employees — 58 deputies and 21 professional staff — surpassing the previous year’s total of 67, which included 52 deputies and 15 professional staff. Under Sheriff Brandenburg’s leadership, recruitment processes have been streamlined while maintaining high standards, despite nationwide hiring challenges for law enforcement.
Innovative Jail Programs
Under Sheriff Brandenburg’s leadership, the Clackamas County Jail is leading the way with programs such as:
- Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT): Supporting individuals with opioid use disorders.
- Rapid Forensic Evaluation Assessments: Reducing custody time for those awaiting mental competency evaluations.
The jail also earned accreditations from the Oregon State Sheriffs' Association and the National Commission on Correctional Health Care.
Strategic Planning and Data-Driven Progress
Sheriff Brandenburg spearheaded the creation of a Strategic Analysis Unit and a new Strategic Business Plan, and introduced updated Mission, Vision, and Values statements. Each program within the Sheriff’s Office now tracks measurable goals using real-time data provided by the Strategic Analysis Unit. This unit also created dashboards on the Sheriff’s Office website, making it easy for community members to find information about:
Transparency and Fiscal Responsibility
Committed to transparency, Sheriff Brandenburg invited an independent audit of the Sheriff’s Office finances. The resulting Financial Condition Analysis was publicly praised by the auditor as a model for government accountability. She also challenged the County’s use of Public Safety Levy funds, working to ensure funds are used as voters intended.
Looking Ahead
Sheriff Brandenburg expressed gratitude for the community’s trust and collaboration:
“We’ve achieved incredible accomplishments over the past four years, thanks to the dedication of our team and the support of the communities we serve. I look forward to building on our accomplishments together, and making Clackamas County even safer.”
