EARLIER (Oct. 10, 10 a.m.): Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office searching for missing man in Happy Valley

The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the Happy Valley Police Department, is actively searching for a missing man who was last seen on the morning of Wednesday, October 9, 2024, after leaving his care home in the area of SE Greiner Ln and SE Central Park Ct in Happy Valley.
The man, identified as 77-year-old Richard Steurer, went out for a walk around 11:45 a.m. Wednesday but never returned, prompting concern from staff. Richard has no cell phone or vehicle. Deputies are particularly concerned due to his age and medical conditions, including cognitive issues that may make it difficult to find his way home.
Surveillance video shows Richard was last seen wearing black shoes, black pants, and a plaid flannel shirt. He is described as being 5'8" tall, weighing 170 lbs., with green eyes and longer gray hair.
Following initial search efforts by the Happy Valley Police Department, the Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team launched a search and rescue mission Wednesday evening. Teams of highly trained volunteers from Clackamas Search and Rescue (CSAR), including specialized K9 units, and sheriff's deputies have been deployed to search the area on foot, by vehicle, and using drones to assist in locating the missing man. Portland Mountain Rescue (PMR) and Pacific Northwest Search and Rescue (PNWSAR) are also assisting in the mission.
The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with doorbell or other household surveillance cameras in the area to please check their recordings for any sightings of Richard.
