The Medal of Valor may be given to an employee of the Sheriff’s Office acting in an official capacity who distinguishes himself/herself by performing an act of exceptional heroism. The act must involve imminent risk of personal safety to the employee, while attempting to reduce the risk of serious injury of loss of life or another.
