Sheriff’s Office Patrol Captain Graduates from FBI National Academy

On Thursday, June 8, 2023, Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Captain Brad O’Neil graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia along with more than 230 law enforcement officers. The 286th session consisted of men and women from 47 states and the District of Columbia, 25 countries, five military organizations, and six federal civilian organizations.

Internationally known for its academic excellence, the National Academy offers 10 weeks of advanced communication, leadership, and fitness training. Participants must have proven records as professionals within their agencies to attend. On average, these officers have 21 years of law enforcement experience and usually return to their agencies to serve in executive-level positions.

FBI Academy instructors, special agents, and other staff with advanced degrees provide the training; many instructors are recognized internationally in their fields. A total of 54,366 graduates have completed the FBI National Academy since it began in 1935. The National Academy is held at the FBI Training Academy in Quantico, the same facility where the FBI trains its new special agents and intelligence analysts.

While other members of the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office have attended the FBI National Academy in the past, Capt. O’Neil is the only currently-serving member of the agency to have attended. Capt. O’Neil also participated in the International Partnership Program where he was able to mentor an international student from the Country of Samoa.

The Sheriff’s Office would like to congratulate Capt. O’Neil on this huge accomplishment and welcome him back to the agency. We look forward to his continued contributions to the people of Clackamas County.
