On Monday, June 5, 2023, Clackamas County Search and Rescue (CSAR) responded to a report of a missing 58-year-old man from the Welches area. The man and his brother had gone to scatter the ashes of a loved one near a tree that had special significance to their family near S Lais Rd and S Dickie Prairie Rd, southeast of Molalla.
The missing man’s brother told searchers the two were trying to locate the tree they had planted as children the day before when they became separated. After the family was unable to locate the missing brother, they contacted the Sheriff’s Office for assistance.
Search and Rescue volunteers with the Sheriff’s Office and Portland Mountain Rescue (PMR) deployed in the area and were able to locate the body of the missing man late Monday evening. While the official cause of death remains under investigation, it appears he may have suffered some kind of medical condition.
